TLDR: The US Supreme Court declined to hear Stephen Thaler's challenge to the Patent and Trademark Office's refusal to issue patents for inventions created by his AI system.
Thaler founded Imagination Engines and argued that his AI system, DABUS, created unique prototypes on its own, but the lower courts rejected his patent applications.
The ruling upheld that inventors must be human beings, and not AI systems, jeopardizing investments and US competitiveness, according to Thaler's supporters.
